How precisely a place is shown
- L0 · An exact public venue
- A named, publicly advertised venue: a library, a gallery, a radio station.
- L1 · A townland
- A rural place with no public venue, shown at its townland with the partner’s agreement.
- L2 · A parish or town
- Shown at the town or parish, never the street. The level for the community groups we work with.
- L3 · A county or region
- Shown at the county, for groups whose members anything finer could identify.
- L4 · Not on the map
- Listed, never drawn: wherever consent is withdrawn, wherever anyone asks, and anywhere being found could put people at risk.
The coarser level wins
Where we and a partner see it differently, the less precise level applies, and anyone — a participant, a partner or us — can take a place off the map. A place shown with photographs, voices or first names drops a level unless consent covers them together. No coordinate finer than a place’s level is stored, so none can be shown.
What is deliberately not mapped
Nothing that participants give us. Private shares, reflection spaces, recorded reflections and our evaluation sessions never reach this map, and the location a camera writes into a photograph is never read.
The curlew is never located at Lyreacrompane, at any scale. So few breeding pairs remain that any mark could narrow a search to a farm, so its decline is told in the programme area’s published count and in our own words, never as a point or a square.
Corrections and withdrawal
If a place is wrong, shown more precisely than it should be, or you want it taken off the map, write to us through the contact page. A withdrawal takes effect at the next publish.
